Winston Churchill

Winston Churchill has exceptional quotes. But I like the most one quite simple that summarizes the personality of this brilliant man: “Never, never, never give up”.

I spread the quote over his portrait.

In this second illustration I used a different quote: “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm”. Totally agree!.

A Hitchcock of 270 Megapixels

I was doing a little research about Alfred Hitchcock when I found this website, the Alfred Hitchcock Wiki. They have 1.000 frames of each Hitchcock’s movie, cool!. So why don’t use all these frames to generate a big… better HUGE Hitchcock portrait.

I took the frames from his ten best movies (of course, my personal best ten list), cleaned and cropped them so don’t have any black or white borders. Then, in order to sort them by bright, I did a little application that calculates the average intensity of each one and give me the list from the brighter to the darker.

The movie list: The 39 Steps (1935), Rebecca (1940), Foreign Correspondent (1940), Mr. and Mrs. Smith (1941), Notorious (1946), Rear Window (1954), Vertigo (1958), North by Northwest (1959), Psycho (1960) and finally The Birds (1963).

Then I spread these 10.000 frames over a portrait of Alfred Hitchcock. But In my first tryouts I noticed that frames become too much little. It was a pity, so I decided to make a really BIG illustration.

It was really hard because I broke all the limits of my software, the only way to generate such a big file was by splitting the render in different parts. But you know, Hitchcock deserves it!.

And here you have my final illustration. A 270 megapixels image (14310x19805pixels). Please be careful, this image could kill your browser if you try to look at it directly. You better right click and “save as” to your hard disk and look trough a good image viewer.

Do you want to play?. Did you know that Hitchcock loved to appears in his movies as a figurant. Are you able to find him in some of these frames?.

Singin in the Rain

I want to share with you my last crazy experiment. One of the most wonderful moments in the motion picture history… a funny Gene Kelly letting us know clearly how happy he is.

Here you have the vector base PDF file: JO-D-110303-SinginInTheRain

And may be because I fell very happy (I’m going to be father again in a few days!) I’m singing this song in my head again and again. Curiously I don’t know how did it get there.

I spread the lyrics of this song over an image of Gene Kelly on a lamppost. It’s so abstract that could be difficult to really ‘view’ it… just get some distance and it will be clear.

Another different version of the same scene.

The Oscars 2011

The next Sunday we will have new Oscar winners. And it’s true, we will remember only the winners… but  as a tribute to Little Miss Sunshine and because the best is not always the winner, I think it would be nice if we make a visualization with all the nominees…

So I took all the relevant names and movies from the official nominees for the 83rd Academy Awards from this website, and spread them over an image of the Oscar.

Javier Bardem, Biutiful, Jeff Bridges, True Grit, Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network, Colin Firth,The King’s Speech, James Franco, 127 Hours, Christian Bale, The Fighter, John Hawkes, Winter’s Bone, Jeremy Renner, The Town, Mark Ruffalo, The Kids Are All Right, Geoffrey Rush, The King’s Speech, Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right, Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole, Jennifer Lawrence, Winter’s Bone, Natalie Portman, Black Swan, Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine, Amy Adams, The Fighter, Helena Bonham Carter, The King’s Speech, Melissa Leo, The Fighter, Hailee Steinfeld… till 336 names.

And the winner is…

John Wayne

John Wayne is one of these forever actors with almost 170 films in his career. He is for sure one of the most well know American icons.

You can read more about John Wayne in his wikipedia article.

But remember this is a game, you have to find ten of his best movie titles. Now the movie titles are not straight, they flow with the colors. But don’t panic, here you have a clue. This is the way one movie title appears in the image… it’s not so hard!

Here you have the PDF vector image JO-D-110222-JohnWayne

Good luck!.

This image is dedicated to ‘the other’ John Wayne, a friend who share with the actor his voice, walk and height… but also his courage and close friendship. Maki this one is for you!.
